Bandcamp will keep waiving its fees one day a month through the end of 2021

Since March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic actually holds most of the world, the bandcamp has freed the commission on the first Friday of every month. Bandcamp Friday initiative will now continue until the end of the year. The next edition took place on August 6.

Nearly 800,000 music fans have participated in Friday bandcamp, paying artists and labels of $ 56 million in the process. On Friday bandcamp, artists and labels received around 93 percent of sales income after the payment processor fee. On every day a month, the artist and label still receive around 82 percent of the income from purchases, the bandcamp said.

Even though the world slowly returns to the similarity of normality and musicians can once again play in several regions, the long-term financial impact of pandemic is something that artists and labels (especially smaller ones) are still dealing with. The initiative like Friday Bandcamp can put some extra money in their pocket to alleviate some tensions, so it’s nice to see the bandcamp continuing efforts for several months.
